When
a tooth is severely broken
down it becomes impossible
to restore it with a
conventional filling.
A crown can restore the
tooth to its original
shape and colour while
adding strength.
Crowns
can be constructed in
many materials in modern
dentistry. Where excellent
aesthetics are required
we recommend all porcelain
crowns, no metal substructure
is used in their construction
and therefore we are
able to recreate the
very natural looking
translucency of teeth.
All
porcelain crowns are
not advisable in areas
of heavy biting stress
because of the high risk
of fracture on the porcelain.
In these situations we
would consider porcelain
bonded to metal crowns
or an all gold crown,
porcelain bonded to metal
crowns are the most common "white
crown" constructed.
